Almost a Native Of Spokane And The Inland Northwest
Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, both Michael Riccelli and his wife, Gretchen, attended and received B.A. degrees from the University of Iowa. Michael then earned a Juris Doctorate degree in law, in 1976, from the nationally respected University of Iowa College of Law, and was admitted to practice law in Iowa. Afterward, Michael and Gretchen, then an elementary school teacher, spent two months traveling throughout every state and major city west of the Rocky Mountains. They were searching for a place to live and raise their future family that blended economic opportunity, a warm and friendly population, a year-round mountain and lake recreational life style, four distinct seasons, the amenities of a city, a good educational system, and a child-friendly environment. Only Spokane and the Inland Northwest met their requirements. They arrived in Spokane in mid-September, 1976, with only a few personal possessions, a few dollars in their pockets, knowing no one, and having no employment or place to live. Regardless, they had faith in the possibilities of life in the Inland Northwest, and Spokane opened it's doors to them. Gretchen continued as a teacher, and Michael as a lawyer. Together, they raised a family of two boys and a girl, each going off to college, graduating, living away from, and then returning to Spokane to live and raise their own families. Gretchen continues, today, as a teacher, Michael as a lawyer, and both as proud parents and grandparents.
