An Experienced & Successful World Class Negotiator
Between 1977 and 1986, Michael J. Riccelli worked in the area of international business, manufacturing, finance, and trade. This was as General Counsel and a part of the management team of a Spokane based engineering, design, and manufacturing company. This company supplied custom designed, engineered, and manufactured heavy construction, mining, material handling, and agricultural equipment to end users throughout the U.S., and in over 40 countries throughout the world. In this role, Mr. Riccelli negotiated and implemented numerous multi-million dollar transactions involving domestic and international business entities, financial institutions, and government and military agencies, including, among many others; the World Bank; the U.S. Agency for International Development; Various branches and elements of the United States Armed Forces; and a multitude of various U.S., foreign based, and multi-national engineering, mining, construction, and agricultural companies. This required study of numerous cultures and their values, habits, ideologies, and religions. This was necessary, in order to understand and deal with the tactics of opposing negotiators and, ultimately, customers from places such as: the Iron Curtain Countries (then under Soviet influence and control); countries of the Middle East and North Africa, such as Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey; and countries of the Far East and Southeast Asia, such as Japan, Korea, Mainland China, India, and Thailand. It also required analyzing, understanding, and communicating, across language and cultural barriers, about economic and social costs, benefits, values, and risks of success or failure of large multinational and multicultural projects. Much of Mr. Riccelli's success in obtaining fair, and often generous settlements for his personal injury clients can be attributed to his demonstrated, advanced tactical and negotiation skills. Necessarily, Mr. Riccelli only accepts clients who are willing to press their claim through to full and final resolution. This may include direct settlement negotiations, mediation, binding arbitration, or a trial before a jury or judge. Unlike many attorneys who claim to be aggressive and competent personal injury attorneys, but who have little, if any actual trial experience, Mr. Riccelli has litigated numerous cases to final and often substantial verdicts, including values ranging several hundred thousands of dollars, to multi-million dollar values.
An Aggressive Trial Lawyer
Between 1986 and 1996, Michael J. Riccelli represented clients in various civil litigation matters, including personal injury matters. During much of that time, he was the managing shareholder of a moderately sized law firm (fifteen employees, including five attorneys). As time passed, he began representing personal injury plaintiffs' where there was no conflict with the firm's substantial insurance defense work. Mr. Riccelli also acted as an insurance defense attorney. It was during this time that he became knowledgeable about the policies, practices, procedures, and tactics of insurance companies and their attorneys, when processing or defending against a personal injury or death claim . This knowledge contributes to the quality of Mr. Riccelli's representation of clients concerning claims arising from medical negligence, defective products, premises liability, motor vehicle accidents and other personal injury claims. As a Spokane, Eastern Washington, and Inland Northwest personal injury lawyer, he has taken many cases to trial and achieved notable verdicts in numerous cases. Mr. Riccelli receives many referrals from lawyers and law firms from within Washington, and from outside the state. Michael J. Riccelli is licensed to practice law in the state of Washington, but accepts clients and matters in other states, often in nearby Northern Idaho. In these instances, he acts as lead counsel, and associates local counsel (at no additional cost to the client), which allows him to be admitted to practice in other state's courts, on a case by case basis.
